Today is International Women’s Day. A holiday first observed in 1908, thousands of women marched in New York then for shorter hours, better pay, and their right to vote. Over a century later, this day is needed more than ever.
Today I’m wearing red to celebrate A Day Without A Woman in solidarity with the Women’s March. Today we stand up for the equal rights of women, and I stand for those that cannot be here today. The theme of the rally today is Educate, Empower and Engage. I am doing my part to educate and empower in Sacramento, and I hope you will join me in engaging with your state and federal legislators to demand equal pay and equal treatment for women under the law. If you can, please shop at women-owned businesses today too.
